Fraser files for bankruptcy on weak pulp, lumber prices Fraser Papers became the fourth North American pulp and paper producer this year to file for bankruptcy protection, citing weak pulp and lumber markets, and high debt and pension payments. The company yesterday announced the filing in both Canada and the US, where the company operates pulp and paper sawmills in New Brunswick, ME, New Hampshire, and Quebec. The three other firms to file for bankruptcy since January were AbitibiBowater, Caraustar, and Smurfit-Stone Container, all of which were stung by debt and the economic downturn. Corporation Durango filed for bankruptcy protection last October in Mexico and the USA. Pulp&PaperWeek/June 19, 2009 |
