Uncoated Freesheet                                                                        excerpt from RISI  Paper Trader May/07

Despite the drop in demand, uncoated freesheet markets will remain relatively tight until late fall due to

the imminent capacity closures. The IP Pensacola machine quit making uncoated freesheet in May, and the

uncoated freesheet machine at the Georgia Pacific mill in Wauna, Oregon, will shut down in the third

quarter. In addition, Boise will continue to shift capacity from uncoated to coated at its Wallula,

Washington, mill. Furthermore, coated freesheet mills may make less uncoated offset in the second half of

2007 as the reduced imports from Asia will tighten up the coated side of the market.

These supply reductions will keep operating rates high enough for the rest of 2007 and 2008 to allow

further price escalation. The xerographic paper price increase in May is already moving through quite

rapidly. We showed an average price realization that was up $10 in April, before the price increases even

went into effect, and price realizations rose another $35 in May.  Since the May price increase was only

effective for the last three weeks in May, we will see further upward price realizations in June.

The May price increase is going through faster and to a larger degree than expected. It will be followed

shortly by a price increase for offset papers. Offset prices are now cheap relative to xerographic and have

been hindered by weaker demand and competition from hybrid grades. We expect a price increase for offset,

formbond, and other uncoated freesheet grades to be announced and implemented in the third quarter.

George Chandler from IP brought his group to Brown Paper this week to introduce CSR Ania Dratwa from Poland.  As an added bonus they hosted a dinner at Felidia’s in New York City, where the famous TV chef surprised us with a visit to our  private dining room. At the end of the AMAZING dinner, Lidia gave each of us a signed copy of her newest cookbook!

Thank you again George, It was an awesome evening!

On a recent trip to Wise Bus Forms, Fort Wayne IN., Susan Thompson,

Mike Burdi and Larry Zupi join Patrick Flick for a bite to eat.

We look forward to conducting press seminars in the near  future.
