News Briefs –Pulp&Paper Week June 5, 2009 International Paper (IP) will temporarily idle its two paper machines in June and July at its uncoated freesheet (UFS) bristols, and market pulp mill in Georgetown, SC, a local media report said Thursday. The PM 1 will be shut during the last week of June and the first week of July, and PM 2 in the first week of July, according to a report by WMBF News in Myrtle Beach, SC. The company cited a lack of orders. The curtailments will cut an estimated 6,500 tons of UFS paper and 2,800 tons of file folder grades. Market pulp production did not appear to be impacted. In the first quarter, IP reported 152,000 tons of “lack-of-orders” downtime at its UFS mills in the USA, up from 127,000 tons of UFS downtime in the fourth quarter. Both downtime figures exclude tonnage eliminated from the shut of PM 3 at its Franklin, VA, mill. |
