Narrative:                                    Excerpt from Brown Paper’s monthly “Market Update”

The UFS market has remained stable over the past month despite some softening in demand and improved machine lead-times at some mills.

As we prepare to enter Q4, there is no indication the September price increases announced by Weyerhaeuser and Boise     Cascade have received support from the other major producers of Laser / MOCR making an early Q4 price announcement    less likely.

Pricing has remained constant during the last 3 months as indicated by the accompanying Paper Price Index numbers.  Mills continue to absorb increased “input costs” some of which include higher pulp and energy expenditures. That being said, they  are less inclined to deviate from current price models.

There is an equal amount of contributing factors to justify a Q4 increase as there are not. One factor inhibiting the ability to get an L/M increase is the strong dip in demand seen in the coated freesheet market. When this occurs, some mills produce and ship uncoated opportunity tons into our market, giving the major producers a basis in the decision making process regarding pricing.
