September’s Laser MOCR price increase appears to be a fore gone conclusion at this point in time.  The participants in this months market update all show a decline in inventory and increases in Laser/MOCR shipments.   It should be noted that one of our surveyed mills has tight supply based on internal reasons not directly tied to   Laser MOCR production.

Major producers have taken a hard line on implementing a general UFS $60/ton price increase in spite of YTD shipment declines and higher mill inventories.  Mills will  maintain supply discipline in order to keep the price levels from eroding as they have since April 2006.  Any future capacity    curtailments or downtime could influence a general market tightening.  As we sit today however, producers have tons to sell with favorable lead times.

Buyers of Laser MOCR will have to keep a close eye on the market over the next     60 – 90 days.
